Essential to dishes like hambagu, yakisoba and okonomiyaki.
The first type of sauce introduced from the UK as Worcester sauce when Japan opened up. It became generally popular only in the late Meiji period once domestic sauce began to be produced. Since it originated in the Kansai region, apparently sauce there refers to Worcester sauce. Many types of sauces exist depending on the consistency, which changes based on the ratio of the main ingredients such as vegetables, fruits, and spices.
USUTA SOSU
Known for its light taste and perfect amount of spiciness. Usuta Sosu is widely used in the Kansai region.
TONKATSU SOSU
Its thick and mild taste comes from all the fruit that’s used.
CHUNO SOSU
A mix between Worcester and tonkatsu sauce with a perfectly sweet and refreshing flavor.
OKONOMI SOSU
Essential for okonomiyaki, it’s rich in spices compared to other sauces and contains less salt.
